Howdy Fellow Commodore Users!

This month for work I attended Intel's presentation of their latest creation of processors the P4. You might ask, P4? I know someone who just got a P3 within the last year, you mean it's already out of date? Well, yes and no. It is the never ending path of faster, greater, blah, blah, blah.

So, what does this have to do with Commodore? Intel wanted to demo stuff on this platform, but there was nothing available that could take advantage of it, short of a couple demos. I thought to myself, "Gee, that sounds like my situation of my CMD SCPU!" There are tons of software that it can run, but limited amount of software that will take advantage of the unit natively.

When Roger and myself went to Chicago to check out the Fall Expo, it seemed that the majority of demo units had CMD's SCPU. Some demos even where shown that required the use of a SCPU. If you have been thinking to yourself, that there's nothing being written, you're wrong.

Roger has demo'd the JPZ/JPX program which displays pictures in colors beyond what the normal C64 can display. I've demo'd The Wave, which allows the 64 or 128 to connect to the internet and actually surf the web like more modern platforms. Besides those programs, what else is there? A webpage was mentioned numerous times at the Expo for sources to a variety of Demos, Games, and Tools. It's called The SuperCPU Home, and it's located at:

If you have been thinking about getting your own SCPU, ask myself or the other club members who own one, what their thoughts of this marvel might be. Do you really need one? Probably not. But one word of warning, if you borrow one for a few days, you won't want to give it up! Some of the programs written with this unit in mind are truly awesome. The compatibility to the existing programs is fairly good, so at least you can now be productive a whole lot quicker than the stock machine. To get your own SCPU from CMD just give them a call at their Orders Line: 1-800-638-3263 Prices start at $199 for the base 64 unit. Don't forget that the giving season is just around the corner, and this would make some Commodore user very happy!

Catch you at this month's meeting on November 19th.
