Howdy Fellow Commodore Users!
It's February, and I'm sure you've heard the news about the
Groundhog's prediction for winter. I am looking forward to the warmer
days ahead, but also realize it's still February in Ohio regardless
what the Groundhog claims is going to happen.
I apologize for those that showed up last month especially for the
disk I promised to bring. I made a trip to Indianapolis that weekend,
came straight to the club meeting from Indy, and packed everything I
needed, but those disks! I promise they will be there at this month's
meeting on February 16th.
Why was I in Indy? I made a joke about it that made everyone
chuckle, but I won't go into it here. It was a local gathering of
Record Collectors of Jazz Music, most of which were fans of the 78rpm
recordings of years gone by (circa 1920s thru 1940s). If you aren't
familiar with 78rpm records, they are like the LPs you might have
grown up with, only smaller in size, usually 10 inches across. Played
a lot faster, 78 rpm instead of 33 rpm of LPs. Let me know if you
want to see one, I'll cart in my portable Victrola and a few records
for all to enjoy and see.
Why am I focused on this, when we are a Commodore Computer club?
It's one of my "other hobbies". When is the last time you saw a
record for sale at places like department stores like Kmart or
specialty record shops? Even though record stores are still called
that, they usually only have CDs DVDs, or tapes. If the admiration of
these pieces of plastic/ceramic/vinyl still exist long after their
production has ended (early 1990s), then our favorite computers will
also go on forever in similar user groups and clubs. I can only hope
that our admiration for the computer will still be appreciated midway
thru the 21st Century. That's only what...(2052) the 70th anniversary
of the Commodore 64? Yikes! I wonder if I will still be able to find
records by then? Yes, it is true we are living today in history. Just
make sure it's one you would like to look back on fondly.
Keep on Commodoring!
