Howdy Fellow Commodore Users!
If you showed up at the Norwood Bingo Hall on the third Sunday
this month and wondered where everyone was, this month's meeting was
shuffled to the 4th Sunday (due to Father's Day). Hopefully you
remembered those guys on their day.
For those of you that attended last month's meeting, you got a
sneek peek of a project I was working on called 64HDD. I've decided
to forgo the internal 1541 drive, but keep the power connectors
accessible from outside the PC's case. This will allow connection of
an external 1541-II or 1581 drive since they use the same type of
power connection. The size of the case I had selected to use for this
project was a mini-case, and as such, has limited space available.
The space needed to put the Commodore based disk drive internally was
just too long to properly fit within the confines available. Using
another drive I had access to, allowed fitting into the case,
however, I needed an additional drive bay for the additional circuit
board. This additional board held the connectors for serial access
and power cords. Unfortunately, the CD-ROM drive bay was the only
area big enough to hold this additional board. I wanted to keep the
CD-ROM drive internal to the PC case, which lead me to resorting
keeping my 1541 drive external.
At the Louisville Expo last month, a 64HDD was being demonstrated
by another Commodore enthusiast. His ideas appear to be similar to
mine, using the entire PC case. As I get closer to completion of this
project, I'll bring it in for everyone to look at, and even demo it
at our own meeting in the near future.
Congratulations go to the newly elected officers who will be
installed at this month's meeting on June 23. See you all then and
keep on Commodoring!
