Howdy Fellow Commodore Users!

Always on the lookout for Commodore news, I get information from the world wide web, and from my various contacts around the globe. What I didn't expect to find was an article written by the New York Times, last month, on 8-Bit Computers, and Commodore in particular.

The large article will not be reprinted here, but you can check it out yourself at New York Times' website at:

http://www.nyt.com

If you do a search on Commodore or 8-Bit, you should pull up an article titled: "Living the 8-Bit Dream in a 32-Bit World". It is not a short article (a little over 5 pages), with a some historical information about not only Commodore, but it's fellow 8-Bit Computers, the Apple II, and the Spectrum Computer. Some of the famous names in Commodore lore mentioned in the article includes Doug Cotton of Creative Micro Designs, Fender Tucker of Loadstar fame, Maurice Randall of Wheels fame, among others.

What I found interesting (something I would not have considered)comparing the processing power of the C64 and what it would take in quantity of C64's to produce the computing power and memory necessary to run some of today's current programs. The funniest was Microsoft Word, (not sure which version, tho) 1,000, or Lotus Notes, 4,000!

If you are unable to locate this article on the web, go to your local library if they have a subscription to the New York Times, and look for issue July 22, 1999. Or, you can wait for the next meeting, and read my copy!

I looked at my calendar, the other day to figure out what was coming up, as the year is now more than half over (or starting for those optimists in our club). I could not believe that I had something penciled in for each and every month remaining in this year.

August: Computerfest at Dayton's Hara Area (28 & 29)

September: Commodore Expo at Chicago (25)

October: CCCC's Annual Swap Meet

November: Tradeshow Production Computer Fair (6 & 7)

December: CCCC's Annual Pot Luck foodfest

January 2000: Tradeshow Production Computer Fair (8 & 9)

I have to confirm most of the dates, so when I get the final information, I'll be sure to pass it on to the membership. I know I will be scrounging through my closet during my vacation for some stuff to bring to the Swap Meet. Is it possible I have sold everything I don't want to keep, yet? After all, I do need to make room for those purchases I plan to make.
