- Why Keep An Online Journal?
For several reasons. I have a lot of friends overseas and even here in Australia that I don't see or get to talk to that often, and since I'm slack about keeping in contact with them, an online journal helps them keep up with what's going on in my life. Also, I'm not very comfortable when it comes to talking to others about personal or emotional issues, so I find it easier to write about them; this helps the people who know me get a better idea of who I am. And lastly, you can call me a exhibitionist if you want, but I like the thrill of exposing the details of my life to all and sundry.
- Who Reads These Things Anyway?
As I said above, friends from overseas or friends I don't get to talk to or see much, or maybe friends who want to get to know me better. But there is also the possibility that some stranger out there might stumble upon this journal and decide to keep up with my comings and goings like some kind of reality-based soap opera.
- Don't You Worry About Privacy?
Of course I do. Some people may think exposing my private life to strangers is dangerous and even stupid. Personally, I think exposing my private life to the people who actually know me is even more of a risk. But this is not an open forum and I'm not asking for feedback or permission to write the things that I do. I'm taking a risk by letting the public peek at my personal journal, and I hope that anyone reading this would respect the privilege they're being given, and not misuse the information here.
- Just How Honest/Real Is This Journal?
I try to be as honest here about my feelings as I can while at the same time being sensitive to others. Unfortunately that isn't always possible - I either have to compromise the truth or hurt some feelings along the way. Knowing that there are people out there who can verify my words and hold me accountable helps to keep me honest. And if I am dishonest or if I misrepresent the truth at any time, ultimately the person I am being dishonest with is myself and not you, the reader; so in the end it's me who pays the price for my duplicity.
- I Didn't Like What You Said (or I Was Offended By...)
Not to sound callous, but tough cookies, mate. This is my version of the truth, and if you can't handle that then you're free to write your own. Don't bother to hate-mail me, the topics I discuss here are not up for debate. You can, however, email me your opinion if you really feel the need to express it in a civil and non-hostile way.
