September 2006
Dear Fellow Girl Scout,
Welcome to the 2006-2007 Girl Scout year!! This promises to be another great year of growth for Campus Girl Scouts, and I’m excited to be sharing it with all of you. Please take a few minutes and read all the way though this as it contains a lot of important information on events and opportunities that will be occurring this year, plus a number of other things you will want to know.
Who Are We?
We’re growing every day! This list now has over 100 members. There are a lot of new people on the list, so I encourage everyone to drop the list a line at campusgs@yahoo.com to introduce yourself. Tell us who you are, where you’re from, and what your role in CGS is.
I’ll start. I’m Cristina Conciatori. While at Boston College I wa the leader of Junior Troop and Assitant Leader of a Brownie Troop. I am looking to lead another troop this year as well. I am also a co-moderator of this list and the webmaster for the CGS Information Center web site.
More broadly, Campus Girl Scouts are everywhere. There are over 100 active Campus Girl Scout groups, with more forming every month. Some 50 of them are connected on this list. This fall alone has seen the formation of 13 Campus Girl Scout groups, with many planning to apply for recognition in this membership year. This year should see the establishment of our first connected groups in California, Ohio, and North Carolina, as well as a number of other groups elsewhere getting started for the first time or starting back up after a few years’ hiatus. Welcome to all of you! We’re happy to have you on the team!
Connectivity
We’ve made some great strides in the past year or two in getting groups connected to each other via this list and in real life. The CGS Information Center had a comprehensive overhaul this summer, with an improved site design so that information is easier to find and get to. Some parts aren’t finished yet, but it’s coming. In the plans are a directory of groups who are connected to the list or otherwise have an electronic presence, with as much contact information as groups are willing to offer. As always, help is welcome on this and all projects to get it done faster; contact campusgs@yahoo.com if you’re willing to donate time and/or talent to helping with the Info Center web site. The CGS Conference are always a great networking opportunity, with some 30 groups represented. Other connectivity advances:
The CGS Council Finder: http://www.oocities.org/campusgs/finder/ Many thanks to Leanne G., Casey, Amy, Penny, and all the others who contributed! This is a fairly comprehensive list of schools for most of the USA, divided up by state and council, showing which have a CGS group or which have someone there who has expressed interest. It’s not complete yet, but it’s been a great help to a number of people already this year. Please double check your school’s status on the finder, and let me know if I need to make you an I or a * or a ? by emailing campusgs@yahoo.com.
Mailing Group: There are still a lot of groups missing from the list. Please let other CGS groups or college age Girl Scouts know about this resource – I’ll be contacting those whose emails I have, but please help pass the word. The Info Center also serves as a coordination center for connecting individuals with groups near them or others at their schools. If you know anyone else who should be told of CGS or who is at a school where we have a group who might be interested, please contact the Info Center and I’ll get you the correct contact information.
As always, you can reach me with any questions, suggestions, or ideas at campusgs@yahoo.com That’s my ‘official’ CGS email out of the Info Center account; you can also reach me personally at conciatori@fordham.edu. The Info Center itself is found at http://www.oocities.org/campusgs/ -- take a look, tell me what you think aand what you want to see there!!
Have a great year!
Yours in Girl Scouting,
Cristina Conciatori
