This year's Edgefest started out with a bang. Literally. My sister and i were driving up the 400 north, about 2km from Molson Park Drive, when suddenly we were hit from behind. No one was hurt, and there was barely any damage to my sister's car (just paint and scratches), but it put a damper on the day. Plus, there were 3 other cars involved, so we had to stick around to wait for the OPP. Which means that even though we *were* going to get there with plenty of time, instead, we ended up missing one of the two bands i wanted to see most - the Mudmen. We ended up getting into Molson Park at around 3:30 pm, which was just in time to see Joydrop perform.
Joydrop was really awesome. We ended up standing right in the front row, so the day started looking up. They played a mix of old songs and new songs, some of which i'd never heard, because the new album doesn't come out until later on in july. After Joydrop were finished, my sister and i went for a walk, and we ran into my friend Jenn. After talking for a bit, Jenn and i decided to walk over to where the busses were, and we met joydrop. i got a picture with all four of them, which was cool, but only two signed my autograph book.
After Joydrop, we went over to the main stage, to check out Gob. Gob rocked, as usual :) (I'm writing this two days after the show, so i can't really remember specific set details) At one point, Gob decided to make fun of Bon Jovi though, and i thought that was pretty cute.
I can't exactly remember what order everything happened next, so i'll just write the highlights:
We were sitting on the top of the hill for Finger 11's set (which was introduced by my two favourite dj's - George and Visnja!) Their set was *really* awesome. Then, i noticed a guy with a camera, and not far behind him was my dear georgie! LOL, so, as he came closer i waved to him, and he smiled, and bent down to where i was sitting, and he stuck out his hand so that he could give me a high five, and he *smacked* my hand, then i did the same to him, and i swear, my hand went numb for 5 minutes afterward. He asked how i was doing, and i said "i'm COLD!" and he lifted the edge of my tigger towel that i was sitting on, and said "you should have this wrapped around you then!" then we chatted for a little while, and he had to leave, to go catch up with his much music crew.
After finger 11 (i think...) we went over to the side stage to see the Black Halo's. I didn't really know too much about them, but i've heard good stuff about them, so i wanted to check them out. So, we were watching the band, when suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, i see John Kearns! He notices that i'm looking at him, and he kinda smiles and waves. I was hesitant about going over to him, because he was with a girl, and i didn't want to interrupt...but i decided to anyway, because he was the last person i needed to meet in order to fulfill my old quest of meeting AOE! (i met Todd first, in 1997, then i met Ryan and Kurt with the rest of Limblifter) So i mustered up my courage and went over to him. He smiled at me, and stuck out his hand for me to shake it, and he says "hi, i'm john!" and i laughed and i'm like "umm...i know! i'm katie." and he's like "nice to meet you." so then he signed my autograph book. Then i asked him for a picture, and as i was pulling out my camera, a bunch of other girls came over and were asking him to sign stuff...so i let them use my sharpie....then i got my picture, and my marker back from him, and i was off. (i didn't want to bother him any longer) - btw, on a side note, Static in Stereo were the *best* band that i saw at edgefest!!
Later in the evening, me and my sister just decided that we were going to chill out on the side of the hill, near the exit, cause we didn't feel like being in the mosh pit. Big Wreck was awesome. During their set, we met some guys who were sitting near us, so we sat with them for the rest of the evening.
The Tea Party were really good...they played a couple of new songs from their forthcoming album. I didn't stay for the whole set though, because my sister was cold and tired, and wanted to go home.
and that was my edgefest.
