Well, what can i say about my favourite band in the world? This show was absolutely unbelievable. I got to the Air Canada Centre at about 3:00, because I won passes from the OLP fan club (the PPU) to see the soundcheck. I brought my friend, Kruno from the CC, with me as my guest, because my cousin (who was going with me to the concert) didn't finish work in time to see the soundcheck.
Finally, we were allowed into the soundcheck, about half an hour after the time we were supposed to get in there, we were allowed in. It was so awesome, seeing them with a crowd of about 40 people, when there would be so many more people later on that night. If i remember correctly, they played Is Anybody Home?, Thief, Teardrop, Dirty Walls (this was the last song, when they asked what song they should play, someone shouted out Dirty Walls, so they played it), and Stealing Babies (but Raine didn't sing, cause he was at the back playing around with the sound).
After the soundcheck, the guys said they weren't going to come down, or sign stuff, because they had press to do...but they came down anyways (except for Raine). Duncan and Jeremy were on the other side of the stage, and by the time i got there, Jeremy was just about to leave, and i only spoke a few words to Duncan, and didn't get him to sign my cd :( So then, Mike comes over to where i was standing, and some other girls were asking him to sign stuff, but he said "i don't have a pen!" (thinking that he could get out of signing, cause as he stated later "i'm going to get in lots of trouble for doing this, cause we all agreed beforehand NOT to sign..."), but i said "But I DO!" so he looked at me, and smiled and said "oh, you had to pipe up, didn't you, katie?!" (OH MY GOD. he said my name! the only way i can think of that he knows my name is from the CC, because i posted my picture on there a bunch of times...it was awesome!!) So, he signed all of my cds, and i had a really nice picture of him from the i and i, so i said to him "mike, i have a really cute picture of you from the i and i! will you sign it for me?" and he said "oh sure, you think it's cute! i think all pictures of me are horrid!" and he laughed, and signed it.
Then, everyone was leaving, but Jamie was still sitting in the stands, signing stuff for people. So I went over to Jamie, and talked to him for a bit, and i handed him my cd covers. He signed "Happiness" on the fish (that's his spot for signing) and then he saw Clumsy and Naveed underneath, and he's like "umm...should i sign these?" and i'm like "of course you should!" (i didn't want him to feel left out!) so then, a crowd of other people came over to him, asking him to sign stuff, but he had no marker, (but was still holding mine) so he's like "do you mind if i borrow your marker for the rest of this?" and i'm like "no, not at all! i'll just stand behind you so i can get it back!" so he's like "alright! cool!" so i stayed behind, waiting to get my marker back, and when he was done, he turns to me and says "Thank you!" so i said, "thank you!" and he said "NO! thank you!" and then we both started laughing.
so i was one of the last ones out of there, and i didn't get an autographed poster like they promised, cause there were none left. :( but that's alright, cause they took my name and PPU# and said they would send me one.
then i saw my cousin waiting outside the doors for me, with my mom. so my mom left to go home, and me and my cousin went to get something to eat. the rest of the ccers were going to have dinner together, but my cousin didn't feel like it, so we went to harveys inside Union Station.
so then, at about 5, we went to line up, and all the ccers were already in front of us, and there were a few people between us. so we were standing there for a while, and then Amber (MissOLP) and Kristina (ClumsVeed), and Amber's friend came, and we let them cut in line with us, and we stayed with them for the rest of the night. at about 6:30, they opened the doors and let us in.
after running to get in there, we all ended up with front row, right in front of Mike's microphone :) there wasn't even that much of a crowd around us, cause the majority of the people would've rather been in the middle and see nothing, then be at the side and see everything...i dunno...people are strange...
the stereophonics went on first. they were really cool, and great live, but their set was *a little* too long, considering the majority of the people didn't know their songs, and we were all really excited for OLP. The guy who was doing the sound for the stereophonics seemed to have a slight crush on Amber. :) he kept on singing to her, and smiling at her. then he asked "what's your name?" but when she tried to say "amber" he didn't understand. so then, after the set was over, he asked amber's name, and finally he understood it, and he threw her a drumstick, but it went over her head, then he gave her the setlist :)
then we were all really anxious for OLP to come on. Finally, the lights went dark, and the crowd went wild. they began with Dirty Walls, which was a weird song to start with, cause a lot of the people in there didn't know songs other than the singles, but i was singing along to every single song! the sound was amazing, except the bass drum was too loud, cause i was right beside the speaker. it was so cool, because i was so close to the stage, i could actually communicate with Mike. i showed him my "cc" and "th" on my hand and he smiled :)
the short films that they directed were really awesome. my favourite was Jeremy's, called "Benjamin Frawley" it was about a little boy, benjamin (wearing a "7" shirt(, who was an outcast, and the bullies made him drink sour milk, and mud, and he spits them out. then he walks away from them looking lonely. then there's a little girl, Sally (also wearing a "7" shirt), who gets bullied around too, and then she walks away and goes to sit on a bench, all alone. then Benjamin and Sally meet, and they're happy together. then a beast in a "7" shirt comes, and he goes to beat up all the kids who were mean to benjamin and sally, and it's basically a happily ever after story :)
they played a really awesome cover of Massive Attack's "Teardrop" and then it kinda morphed into Hope. Then Raine said "Do you feel like singing?!" and everyone cheered, so we had to sing "oh this woman is gone" and he came down into the mosh pit, and stuck the microphone in our faces. Rich from the CC had the mike right in front of his face, and a bunch of the other CCers (including me) got to reach over and sing with Raine.
Raine told a really sad story about Stealing Babies. About a little girl named Eve who's got AIDS, and she lives in New Zealand. even though i already knew the story, i couldn't help but cry when i heard it at the show. :*(
after the show i bought myself a key chain and a "talking is just masturbating without the mess" t-shirt. then i went to the CC meetup for about 10-15 minutes, cause then my cousin had to go home, cause she had to go to work the next morning.
