Mix 99.9's Beachfest has become a tradition for me. This year, when i heard that smoother was playing, it made my day! (Unfortunately, i didn't like any of the other bands that were playing! LOL) I went to the show with my parents, because everyone else was busy this year, but they thought the "music was too loud" for them, so they took off.
I found myself a spot right in front of the stage, while the Waltons were on. - side note, the guy who was playing keyboard for the waltons was Todd from Hawksley Workman's band, the wolves! - It turned out that the people i was sitting near were all from the smoother board! (Mags, Leanne, Andrea (who i thought was leanne...oops!) and another one of their friends) So i hung out with them the rest of the day, and later on Jeff and Emily joined us (when smoother went on)
Soon enough, smoother started doing their soundcheck. We all stood up along the front barrier, and screamed every time they mentioned "smoother on next!" At that point i got my videocamera ready (yay for bootlegs!) and at approximately 11:50 they took the stage. They opened up with East Coast, West Coast (if i remember correctly). Then, in no particular order, they played: Rock Her Like A Lion, Good Day, French Cigarettes (my battery on my video camera died in the middle of this song, DAMMIT!), East Side, and they ended with Snake (it sounded SO awesome!) When they played East Side, they sent it out to all of us in the front row (they mentioned a bunch of usernames from the message board...but not mine! i don't think anyone knows how to pronounce "olpphreak" ...i'm thinking of changing it)
After the show, they said that smoother would be at the side of the stage, so we all headed over there. We talked to Todd first...he asked everyone else what their username was, except me...so i volunteered mine. ;P Next, Adam came over and talked to us for a bit. Then i got a *brilliant* idea that i should videotape all of the smootherboys saying something to the camera, so i made Adam say something. (btw, there was lots of time in between all these autograph signings and chatting 'n stuff, where we were all pretty much just standing around...) Then i went over to where Andrew was standing and i said "andrew, you have to say something for the camera" so he said "something for the camera!" then i said "no, say something intelligent" and he said "something intelligent" LOL...then it went on from there until i said "okay, i'll stop embarassing you now!" and he laughed. Then i went over to where James was, and got him to sign my postcard and say something for the camera. We talked to james for a bit, then i noticed the "snake" stickers on the back of their van, so i asked James if they happened to have any lying around, so he looked around, but couldn't find any :( (LOL, when they opened the back of their van, i noticed the funniest bumper sticker that they had covered up by the 3 snake stickers... "honk if you swallow" ...i wonder why they covered it...maybe too many people honking at them!? LMAO) the only one i didn't get to meet was Beau, because he took off to eat, and then when he came back again, he seemed busy, so i didn't want to bother him...
Then Todd brought out a video camera, and made us all say something. (I escaped for a little while, then he saw me, and made me say something...i hate being on camera though, cause i always sound like a moron!) My goal for the day was to try and get a picture with all 5 smootherboys, but i could see that that wasn't going to happen, so, since Todd and James were together, i tapped James on the shoulder and asked him if i could take a picture with the two of them. So we waited for Todd to finish talking to some people, then we posed for a picture. Then i felt Todd doing something to the back of my head to make me look stupid for the camera, so i kinda swatted at him to make him go away, LOL, he looked scared (and james was like "hey, it wasn't me!") :P Then i made Mags take another picture, and i glared at Todd and said "be good this time!" And he looked at me and said "ohh, you're going to be a teacher someday!" Then i told Todd to say something for the camera (because i didn't get him to earlier). After that we just kinda sat around for a while, but then my parents came over, because they wanted to go home...and that was it!
