FAQ

What is the ACLCL?

In the summer of 1998, encouraged by experiences and successes experienced by the Guild of Canadian Film Composers in the development of it's organizational relationships, Composer/Lyricist/Librettist Robert George Asselstine (see Member List) and Librettist Maryjane Cruise (see member list) with the help of Composer Glenn Morley (see member list), began to assemble a list of persons in Canada - each of whom was in some way engaged in the practice of "creating" for the Musical Theatre.

The purpose was to begin to establish a community of "inclusion" designed to "foster the creation and production of Musical Theatre by Canadians". With a committment to nurture the creative process rather than "critique" its content, the ASSOCIATION OF CANADIAN LIBRETTISTS, COMPOSER & LYRICISTS was born on Wednesday evening November 18, 1998 in the most Canadian of places  - GRETZKY'S RESTAURANT, Toronto.

Since that evening in November, the ACLCL has grown to include close to 50 persons involved with and working on the creation and development of original Musical Theatre works with a view to providing a response to a growing global appetite for new and exciting "CONTENT".

Who are the Members of the ACLCL?

Members of the ACLCL come from all walks of life - from established Composers / Lyricists / Librettists to novice songwriters and playwrights. There is no secret handshake and there are no secret decoder rings. The ACLCL seeks to grow interest and skills in the three primary disciplines associated with the Musical Theatre.

Can I join the ACLCL?

Membership in the ACLCL is not restricted. If you demonstrate an interest in the process, you are welcome to be a member. Simply send a note to MARYJANE CRUISE (mjcruise@netcom.ca) who serves as our Membership person. There is an annual registration fee of $60.00 (CDN) payable to the ACLCL.

What's in the future for the ACLCL?

With the official "launch" of the ACLCL having taken place on June 21, 2000, members will now be meeting to discuss strategies for 2000 and 2001. As always ... STAY TUNED!
