The British Volunteers Four companies were inspected yesterday by Major TAYLOR. While this officer was admistering the oath of allegiance to the men, he was greatly affected by their grave and stern demeanour. The remaining companies will be mustered in to-day. The Colonel of the Regiment, W. H. AUSTIN, as well as the Major, ELLIOTT, arrived yesterday from Canada, and are stopping at the Astor House. From this hotel a presentation of colors will shortly take place. LAWRENCE T. BROWNING has been unanimously elected as Quartermaster, and S.M. SAUNDERS as Paymaster. |
