- The Alternative Music Almanac by Alan Cross
- This book has everything in it from how bands got their names, to fan clubs, to a 'on this day' section. It is a good resource for information. For those outside Toronto Alan Cross was the afternoon DJ for Edge 102, he still has a segment on 'The Ongoing History of New Music' on Sundays at 7:00pm and again Mondays at 11:00pm. - 20th Century Rock and Roll: Alternative Rock by Alan Cross
- This book evolved out of a 25 part series on his radio program 'The Ongoing History of New Music'. The book is all about the 25 most influential Alt. rock bands. A good read if you want to know the history of alt. rock
- High Fidelity by Nick Hornby
- This is the book that the movie was based on. The soundtrack is good the book is better.

- This Toronto free weekly has probably the best concert listings, plus a good music section with concert reviews, disc reviews and the occasional feature article on an Indie band.

- The other Toronto free weekly good concert listings, really good concert reviews, great section called T.O. Music Notes, with bits of info about the music scene in Toronto
