The $30,000 Candlepin Challenge show held it's first Championship match
for all the marbles (and cash!) at Pilgrim Lanes in Haverhill, MA.

After 36 weeks of great matches from some of New England's
finest candlepin bowlers the stage was set to crown the
CHAMPION determined by matches between the season's
three highest point getters

Lou Alberghini from S. Easton, MA finished in the #3 position with 1800 points.

Det Klein from Marlboro, MA took the #2 seed with his 2200 point performance.

Dave Dupuis from Auburn, MA held on to the top spot with the 2350 total he
earned at the very start of the season.

It didn't take us long to spot another
Hall of Fame "Triple Play"at Pilgrim Lanes

1999 inductees Ralph Semb (left) and Dan Murphy (right) stand with the newest
member of the Candlepin Hall of Fame, Sil Angelotti, the founder of Pilgrim Lanes.
The official induction ceremonies were held October 2002, during the weekend of
the ICBA Championships

Great memories rekindled again at Pilgrim Lanes when the lights turned on over these
four lanes which once staged the live True Value Championships on CH 5 in Boston.

The nostalgia continued when old friend, Ralph Stewart, arrived and took
his famous spot at the lob line in his trademark sweater and argyle socks.
NOBODY called the shots better than Ralph!  NOBODY!

You know....His old chair chair should have been placed in the
Smithsonian Institute after all those years in that spot on CH 5

ROUND ONE - THE CHALLENGER'S MATCH

The challengers match between Lou Alberghini (above) and Det Klein (below) proved to be an exciting one. Alberghini came out of the gate fast with three spares in the first four frames. Klein marked in the first and then began punching pins after until the strike in the fifth. He was never able to capitalize on the five open boxes Alberghini left. Klein managed to climb back within 3 after the ninth box but Alberghini pulled out a clutch spare shot in the tenth, converting a half worcester leave and then filling it with a strike.  The final score was 121 -107
