PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY AND GOALS
The Electroneurodiagnostic Technology at Harford Community College is designed and dedicated to providing training in both the theory and practice of electroneurodiagnostic techniques.

Clinical Assignments
Students will be assigned to clinical affiliate by the Educational Coordinator. Factors considered in assigning students will include:
1. Geographic distance between the students home and the various clinical sites.
2. Availability of the clinical site to accept students.
3. Student Responsibilities

Clinical Grievance
Should conflict occur in clinical affiliate the following steps should be followed:
1. All conflicts or complaints should be discussed with the Clinical Coordinator. The discussion should be primarily of verbal nature and no formal written report is required.
2. If the conflict can not be resolved with the Clinical Coordinator, the student or Clinical Coordinator may contact the Educational Coordinator. The Educational Coordinator will act as a neutral mediator to resolve the conflict. These discussions should be primarily of a verbal nature and no formal written report is required.
3. If resolution cannot be achieved by the Educational Coordinator, any party may contact the Program Director. The Program Director will resolve the conflict through the use of the Colleges student grievance policy. Written documentation of this process will be included in the student's practicum file.
4. The student academic grievance policy will remain in effect throughout the practicum experience.
Emergency Medical Procedures
In case of an injury during clinical rotation, the student is to notify the clinical coordinator immediately. An incident report will be completed for any accident or injury and copy of the report will be included in the students practicum folder.
Should it be determined that emergency medical treatment is needed , the following policy shall be in effect.
In case of an accident or injury, the hospital furnish medical care of first aid, at the standard charge for injuries of minor illnesses of the Student until the Student is transferred to another facility for continued care. The Hospital assumes no financial responsibility for the care or treatment of the Student. Bills for services rendered shall be forwarded to the Student for payment.
Should an injury occur during the clinical training, the student is to notify the Harford Community College Security Office (401) 836-4272 as soon as possible, and completer an accident report within 10 days of the occurrence.
WHAT WE CAN EXPECT FROM YOU
Whenever a group of people work together, there must be standards of conduct and attendance for common guidance and efficiency. It is impossible to define in detail every standard for every circumstance, and we try to keep rules to minimum. In most cases, your common sense will guide you to the appropriate behavior. Listed below are few specifics regarding what we expect from you. This should not be regarded as an all-inclusive list of our expectations and standards.
If you have any questions about our standards of conduct or about what to do or not to do in situation, please talk to your Clinical Instructor or Educational Director.
QUALITY AND COURTESY
Our clinical sites pride themselves on being leaders in providing community health care services. We view service to our patients and families as our most important responsibility. You are expected to help us carry out this policy by extending every courtesy and all assistance necessary to patients, employees, and visitors to the hospital. Each Clinical Instructor should review the Policy and Procedures for their particular site with their student.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
Our clinical sites are interested in your health and safety and in protecting our facilities. You should observe and obey their safety rules, including Universal Precautions. Hafford Community College notifies the students of their need to produce documentation of required vaccines/immunizations/CPR certification prior to the start of their clinical practicum.
Prior to the beginning of clinical training, each student must provide the Program Director with the following:
1. Completed Physical Examination form signed by physician.
2. Evidence of P.P.D. test within the past 6 months.
3. Evidence of completed or ongoing immunization series for Hepatitis or signed waiver form. Immunization is strongly recommended,.
4. Evidence of other immunizations as may be required by the assigned clinical affiliate.
5. Evidence of an up-to-date Tetanus immunization.
6. Students are strongly encouraged to have active health and accident insurance.
Dress Code
The student will adhere to the dress code of the assigned clinical affiliate.
Handling of Confidential Information
Any information concerning the business of our clinical sites, patients, employees, or personnel associated with the clinical site is confidential and restricted. You may not reveal any such information except under the direction or approval of you clinical Instructor. If you are not sure about the confidentiality of particular information, you should refer your inquiry to your Clinical Instructor. A breach in Patient confidentiality will result in the immediate suspension of the student from the clinical affiliate.
Personal Visitors
Students are not permitted to have visitors while at the clinical site. Students car pooling are asked to have their driver/riders meet them at designated area at specific time. Instructors may make exceptions during emergency situations.
Personal Telephone Calls
Hundreds of calls are made to the clinical sites each day. The welfare of patients requires that lines be free for hospital use. Every institution has policy regarding personal telephone calls and in every institution as in every work place they are discouraged. Exceptions will be made during emergency situations.
Attendance
Students are to follow the college calendar and observe school holidays. The student is not required to attend if the college declares snow day; however, the student must notify the clinical instructor. If the student is unable to attend on practicum day, he/she must notify the clinical instructor.
Students are allowed two excused absences per semester. Additional time must be scheduled with the clinical coordinator to make up for these absences. Additional absences may result in the removal of the student from the clinical portion of the program. In the event of an absence, the student must notify the clinical instructor at least one hour before the beginning of the assigned shift.

When severe weather conditions threaten travel and other activities, the following stations will broadcast College announcements:

Additional Hours
Students are required to be at the clinical site for instruction with the Clinical Instructor minimum of 27 hours per week. Clinical Instructors are required to provide 27 hours of instruction to the student at their site.
Students who have the desire to put in additional hours at the clinical site may do so with the approval of his/her Clinical Instructor.
Students must keep in mind that the Clinical Instructors have other job duties within their institution and may not be able to commit themselves to additional hours. Allowing students to put in additional hours will be left to the discretion of the Clinical Instructor upon approval of the Clinical Institution and notification of the Educational Coordinator. Students are covered under the Hafford Community College Insurance Plan only during the required course hours. Students must be aware that although they may meet the required credit hours for Practicum I or II at an earlier date this does not make them eligible for early completion of the practicum.
COURSE OUTLINES AND EVALUATIONS
Participation in the practicum requires an extensive independent learning environment. The student should not expect formal classroom setting (i.e. lectures). Students will become part of functioning EEG laboratory. Participation in this laboratory setting will require the student to develop flexibility in achieving both the theory and laboratory skills necessary to enter the workforce as an EEG technologist.
The criteria for successful completion of the clinical practicum is as follows:
1. Minimum of 27 hours/week instruction.
2. Must perform an average of 200 EEG's during the two semesters of training.
3. Must have satisfactory performance evaluations and test scores.
Clinical Objectives
Affective

4. The student will accept help and offer to help other students and staff as appropriate.
5. The student will accept assignments and perform all assignments with thought for preparation and completion of the assignment.
6. The student will demonstrate high motivation for learning, be working independently and seeking tasks in addition to those assigned.
7. The student will follow designated tasks in the manner prescribed.

Unit Tests and Finals
There are 3 units tests and final for each practicum.
If the student begins the Fall program the first week of Sept. the test for Practicum I Unit I will be taken the first week in Oct.. The second test Practicum I Unit II will be taken the first week in Nov.. The third test Practicum I Unit III will be taken the first week in Dec. and the final for Practicum I will be the last week prior to the Holiday break.
If the student waives the complete Holiday vacation and resumes the practicum the first week of Jan. the first test Practicum II Unit I will be taken the first week in Feb.. The second test Practicum II Unit II will be taken the first week in March. The third test Practicum II Unit III will be taken the first week in April and the final for Practicum II will be taken the first of May.
If the student does not waive the Holiday vacation and resumes classes the third week in Jan.. the first test Practicum II Unit I will be taken the third week of Feb.. The second test Practicum II Unit II will be taken the third week of March. The third test, Practicum II Unit III will be taken the third week of April and the final will be taken the third week of May.
Test Schedule
Unit tests and finals will be held at the Testing Center at Harford Community College. Students are to call the center to schedule their test time during the assigned week.
Students beginning their practicum in the fall will take their unit tests and finals according to the following schedule:

Grading Policy
The Clinical Instructor's evaluation of the student's progress accounts for 70% of the final grade. Written tests and quizzes account for the remaining 30%.
In order to enroll in Practicum II, student must have minimum grade of 70%, or C, in Practicum I.
The clinical and theory positions are then combined and final grade is given based on the following scale: A=90%, B=80%, C=70%, D=60%, F=<60%.
