Comments: WebTV, by it's own admission, is a very small company. With Microsoft behind them, they'll be able to accomplish more in the future for the users. As long as WebTV remains as personable with their one on one responses at WeCare, I don't have any problem with the deal. Some people are upset that this move wasn't even discussed wth the users, but the bottom line is that the company does not belong to the users. The users are exactly that...users of a service, not owners. WebTV has made a move that they feel confident in and this company has always kept the users in mind. I have faith that they have placed major consideration on how this would effect us. I will always love my WebTV!!!

Comments: #1.) The newsgroup threading improved today; I also like the expanded archive BUT without the ability to quote from previous newsgroup posts within a thread, we can't participate on a par with other usenet users; There has been relatively little complaining about the lack of a quote feature; could that be because most WebTV users aren't participating in actual discussion forums? Maybe most users are not exploring beyond WebTV's own newsgroups which encourage commenting rather than the back-and-forth discussion of particular points which is characteristic of many other newsgroups. I do a lot of lurking now that we have a newsreader, but without quote I have to stay on the sideline of most discussions. #2.) I still don't like digital music, but WebTV's background selections are no worse than any others #3.) I first learned about WebTV online (press announcemnts, news releases) #4.) Why do you care how old I am? NOYB ;-)

Comments: #1: newsgroup upgrade is just an okay feature. #2: music upgrade also only okay #3: it was one of the products showcased on QVC. #4: would like webtv to improve the ability to integrate with the various home page editors with out so many problems. Webtv/Microsoft deal? couple things could happen short term and probally none of them any good for us the end user. C U

Comments: I love my Phillips WebTV. The only problem I have encountered is the automatic power shut off. It got so bad that Phillips had to send me a new one (they were fast and wonderful about this). Unfortunately, I am having the same problem with the new unit. Not as frequently as the other though. Also, this time I get a split-screen effect before the power goes off. I often travel out of state on weekends, and I take my WebTV with me. I did encounter one problem when I tried to hook it up in a Crown Suites hotel in Columbus, Georgia two weeks ago. The hotel had a Digital PBX telephone system which the people at 1-800-GOWEBTV said WebTV was not compatable with. I've had success hooking it up in all other hotels, though. To be on the safe side, I always call the hotel in advance to make sure they have an easy access phone jack and that the cable on their television set can be removed so I can use an RU adapter. I recently e-mailed WebTV and asked them if they would ever design a carrying case for the wireless keyboard (I keep mine in a plastic bag at home so cat hair and dust don't get in it or on it) because I have to pack it very carefully. They responded that that idea is in the works, but no product release date was available. p.s. I love your page. Quite informative!

Comments: 1) webtv's own newsgroups are technically inferior to other newsgroup formats. .users is informative but repetative. .talk is mostly juvvy sex stuff. 2) would perfer the ability to import any RA or MIDI for background.
