Comments: I wish webtv would give us enough memory to download a few graphics and put them on our servers. It is very wrong to link to peoples graphics. Even when you find a wonderful place like draacs gifs it still sucks. When your server cant reach draacs server you are stuck with pages with no backgrounds and pages that can't be accessed because your server can't get your graphics and finish loading your page. I had to take all my graphics off!

Comments: I don't really use the graphics feature, either in E-mail (except a little icon) and I don't have a homepage either. I have used draac's in the past.

Comments: Webtv needs to upgrade the unit so that gif, jpg, mid, wav etc files can be stored, saved, sent (like mail) and uploaded to web pages. This also includes setting up a library of these files and one would simply transfer it into their own memory area. Before Webtv even thinks about adding free web pages, they should do this FIRST

Comments: To TOOTIE, I think you should read the Club Webtv editorial again, and look at the second paragraph, 3rd and 4th sentence, where it does indeed mention netiquette and using html/graphics in email sig boxes, as well as in homepages, and the problems this causes not only in newsgroup postings, but in others' email boxes (pc users, as well as webtv users, although Webtv does not mention how it slows down loading of emails for Webtv users, just postings). Please email me so I can explain some other things to you about the gifs in Draac's free gifs page.

Comments: After reading Club WebTV's editorial, I have to say that your questions are misleading. At no time was it stated in that article that it was bad nettiquette to use graphics and sounds in your signatures. The reference to bad nettiquette was about linking to graphics and sound WITHOUT permission.WebTV Networks wrote that you might wish to consider that it takes longer to load posts in newsgroups if you have HTMl in your signature, however, no where did it mention that this practice is considered bad nettiquette. Also WebTV did not admonish anyone, they simply pointed out, correctly, that it is not a good idea to link to peoples graphics WITHOUT their permission. They provided the reasons why and offered a sololution by acknowledging DRACCS gif site. This is legal, as DRACC has made his site and given permission to others to link to his graphics. The key word here is permission!!DRACC should be given a lot of credit for his hard work and WebTV Networks was correct in pointing out his site. It is NOT stealing folks. There is not any rule at Tripod that does not allow this and he is well within the rules.Be thankful that someone has finally provided a good option to the problem of linking to others graphics. It is a good one. Bravo to WebTV Networks for pointing out the problem AND the solution, and ditto to DRACC for his hard work and insight.

Comments: Anyone putting a homepage on the WWW should know that any image can and probably will be stolen and used elsewhere. If bandwidth is being used because an image is being borrowed by another home page then that image could be removed or relocated.
