Comments: Gee...Now that the major download of the WebTV up-grade is complete, what will the impetuous malcontents have to complain about? I feel SO badly for the compulsive, boo-hoo, where's MY up-grade whiner-type at this point. Hey, you could always piss and moan about the printer interface adapter not yet being available for retail sale...does that help? Why not TRY enjoying WebTV for what it is, and leave it at that! Now THERE'S a unique idea!!

Comments: If Hitachi can make better boxes than Sony or Phillips then more power to them! My sony infrared keyboard is already starting to fall apart and the remote that came with the box is a cheap toy! I have the remote for the Sony VCR next to it and the difference in quality workmanship is obvious. I think there has been a very steep learning curve on the part of everyone with regards to the getting the Internet over the TV, I've learned a lot and I'm sure the people running WebTV are getting quite an education.

Comments: I find it extremely distracting to hear music in email and newsgroup postings. I cannot concentrate on reading the text of the message when music is playing. I always mute the sound, but if I forget to do so before I read the message, it is somewhat annoying to be blasted with music I did not want to hear. Including pictures in email and newsgroup postings without a link to view it optionally is, in my opinion, obtrusive and unnecessary, just like the new banner ads that so many seem to find objectionable. I believe it is also causing the increased problems we are having with slow loading e-mail and newsgroup postings. While I realize that many webtv users are having fun with their new HTML abilities, I fail to understand why they think everyone would want to see or hear these little personal additions. Unless you are posting a message to the newsgroup on the subject of using html, and certain tips and tricks to do so, and need to include an example of what to do, or how it would look or sound if you did it a certain way, why else would it be included for ALL to see or hear? Using html pictures and sound in the signature box would be ok if the sender had the option of clicking the sig box on and off, and only sending messages including these pics and music to those you know have not heard it yet. But listening or viewing the same pictures over and over again can get to be quite annoying. I just don't understand the purpose the sender has in mind? Anyone who would like to explain this to me, please feel free to write to me.

Comments: This new group of upgrades we are all now recieving is just great. From what I've heard in the past 48 hours, we will be getting in addition to the expanded favorites folders, Java Script and the enhanced Real Audio, evryone has been asking for. The current upgrades will be sent to all Web Tv subscribers in the next three weeks for to send the upgrades to everyone at one time would overload the system and cause big problems. So standby for the upgrades.

Comments: I find music & pics in email entertaining. Let me qualify that by saying that I don't appreciate bad taste or slow loading pics. But in a newsgroup, it irritates me. (Unless it's a humor or HTML or such group.) Folks do such creative things & I understand the need to share the fun (or show off) & that's great. Chat rooms seem to like this sort of thing from what I've seen. As far the competitor, I have a wait & see stance. I think the box that delivers Netscape to its subscribers will rule, as the world seems Netscape crazy.

Comments: Usenet discussion groups, ability to create my own web site, and Mailing lists (and e-mail) are my favorite features of webtv (though I have been known to do a lot of surfing as well). It is good to see you focus on the netiquette area. I think we have to acknowledge that newbies must be toilet-trained.

Comments: On Question #2: My answer falls along the lines of the first choice, but I do understand the gripes of people who don't have HTML-supportive mail servers and newsreaders. Until all can see, it is probably best to send HTML only to those we know can see/hear it.

Comments: I am surprised about the new NetChannel service, although I fell WebTv will be better since they have more experience. I have a Phillips Magnavox terminal, but I now wish i'd bought the Sony. The only reason why I got the Magnavox was because an ignorant salesperson said Magnavox would be first to deliver a printer. That was untrue. In fact, Sony will be a few weeks earlier! I can't complain much, though, since I haven't had any problems with the unit so far (although the keyboard is pretty cheaply made)
