Comments: When the moderators participate, it tends have less wildfire rumors. Some mods are especially helpfull but I have read usefull information from both moderated and mod-free. The cuckoo list has some great hints but there is too much shallow commenting.

Comments: Well you didn't include a question about how we came
to find out about the w groups. I found out by
following a link off someone's WebTV page. I think the
groups should be unmonitored but should have someone to try and keep thngs on topic. I don't like the mod
groups where someone else decides whether my post is
valuable enough to make the cut. Basically, what you
have with the w groups is another Usenet alt.* group
formation. That's how they got started. Wanting to be
unmoderated and more flexible. Just my two cents here.

Comments: I visit the webtv.user ng occasionally.
I find it at times very useful, but a negative or complaining attitude keeps me from visiting more often.
I visit only one w group regularly (daily): w.gay.
I find it very open and accepting (of different opinions, not just different sexualities); there is a family type atmosphere; topics are interesting and varied, from I need advice! to Are Braditude and Janaway_fan the same person? ;-)

Comments: 5.I go to both areas for info. I rarely post since since I usually find the answer to what I'm looking for. I don't reply to posts since most have been answered already and I don't believe in duplication.
6.It usually sucks and lags behind the w groups. But occasionally you get some usefull info.
7.I don't know if they should be moderated. It is pobably? better unmod. The w groups have some really intelligent up to date people in them. They also have some complete morons. Like the ones who took the html out of n2play, I mean you go there now and rarely do you see posts on the subject. But overall they are fun and entertaining even to a lurker as myself.

Comments: 6. I like the moderated users group and think it should
continue as it is.
7. I like SOME of the unmoderated groups and think we
have MORE than enough already. I don't like the wild
flaming that can go on in these groups, but wis they
could remain unmoderated, or at least only partially
so, in order to prevent flaming. I would like to see
flamers kicked out of these groups as they are very
troublesome and divisive and abusive, and therefore
unwelcome in a presumably civilised group.

Webtv would be better off expending their time elsewhere on more worthy stuff such as cut and paste and the like

Comments: I visit both and read both and think both newsgroups
have a place. I'm glad BOTH exist. Sometimes the
unmoderated turn silly, vulgar or rude but as long as
it doesn't get out of hand, I enjoy both. I do not
care for chatrooms as far as I've seen which isn't much
as I get discouraged about them very quickly. (Too
old?) I love to read discussions, differences of
opinions and good arguments but a lack of vocabulary
displayed in the chatrooms turns me off and I click out
very quickly. So really, these two avenues are great.

Comments: #5) I know about the webtv.users newsgroup and the w. hierarchy. Of the two, I post mainly to webtv.users, but I do sometimes post to one or more of the w. groups.
#6) The moderated webtv.users newsgroup is a good idea. However, there are far too many posts asking questions without even an attempted answer from the Moderator(s). Too much of the time they are leaving it to our fellow users to answer questions. This may not be such a bad idea, considering that quite often the users seem to know more about what's going on than the WebTV employees.
#7) As far as the w. groups go, I couldn't care less if I tried. Let the person that requested the group moderate it if they want to, but I think some people will always want an unmoderated/uncensored forum in which to spout off on any subject that comes to mind. I will say this much: I'm glad that the w. are (supposedly) not being read by the general Usenet population -- most of them have such a low opinion of WebTV and its users already...

Q5. Aware of both groups, and have visited/posted in both groups.
6. The moderated group is difficult to follow. Original statements and reponses should be co-located.
7. Unmoderated groups should be just that!

Comments: I used to like USERS very much. When I first came online in May I practically lived at users. Then things started to go wrong....2 days for a post to show up....blue titles no longer turning pink after I read them....BACK button all of a sudden going to PREVIOUS post instead of to group as it had previously....promises from moderator that they were wkg on the problem. This was mths ago + still have original problem. I don't have any of these problems at any other group but users (and I frequent a lot of ngs.

Comments: Webtv newsgroup does not post your questions and
answers. they pick through them and decide which ones
they want to post. That is unfair. Sometimes I have a
question and I would like an answer. It sould not be
their place to decide if it is important or not. It was
important to me or I wouldn`t post.

I read and/or post in Users and w.arts.a/v daily.
I like the w. as they are, but I also like rudiger's mod and if more mod groups happen that's fine w/me.
It seems that User's posts arent posted in order even though they say they are.
I will post a proposal to mod a group in config when my proposal is ready.

Comments: I used to read the Users group daily. Have posted there several times. Very informative. Met helpful people. The mods are patient and humorous especially considering the abuse they tolerate. I peruse the unmoderated groups occasionally.I'd have to be some kind of masochist to post there. Most are like a bunch of hateful school kids. Sure has changed my opinion of people. I guess I've given them more credit than they deserve. I can only hope that there is a majority of people that have better things to do in life than spend it in those newsgroups with people so spiteful.
