SMOG - Bad Ozone

Objectives - This lesson will be complete when you can: 1. List sources of pollutants that lead to smog formation. 2. Describe how smog forms. 3. Identify low level ozone as the main problem produced by smog. 3. Identify ways to decrease smog.

Instructions:

(1) Read Good Up High Bad Nearby (from the EPA web site at: http://airnow.gov/index.cfm?action=gooduphigh.ozone#bad )

(2) While you are reading, mark the articles:

1. Circle the names of pollutants that cause smog (low altitude ozone).

2. Underline or highlight information about how these pollutants get into the air, how they form smog and ozone, the effects of smog and ozone, and how these pollutants and smog and ozone leave the air.

3. Put an asterisk (a star) next to information on how people can manage this problem better.

(3) Write a paragraph explaining what smog is and how it forms (use the back of this paper if you  need more room).
