Leon Eagles (1932-1997) was a British character actor, born in Cardiff, who played minor roles for both the BBC and the ITV production companies during a television career that lasted from 1958 to 1991. During this period, he was also active in the theatre, first performing with the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1955, and last appearing on stage in 1989, once again in a Shakespeare play. Of interest to science fiction television fans for appearences in The Avengers (1963) and Doctor Who (1977), he also appeared in a couple of children's science fiction productions.
In 1978, Eagles played the role of Major Hughes in the Thames Television series 'The Tomorrow People'. While the major only appeared in one serial - Hitler's Last Secret - his function in the serial was a pivotal one, identifying the problem and bringing it to the attention of the Tomorrow People.

Interestingly, Eagles played a similar role as the General in a second Thames children's science fiction series - 'Chocky's Challenge' in 1986. Although noticeably older in this latter series, Eagles' played both roles with a well measured performance of an old school British Army officer.

On a final note regarding these two performances, it's worth noting that Eagles clearly wore the same costume - presumably stored in the Thames Television wardrobe - for both serials. Although, the uniform was adorned with red epaulets for its second appearence, the basic fabric and, more tellingly, the pattern of decoration ribbons worn are identical in both cases, although the General boasts more ribbons.
