ZION NATIONAL PARK
(please be patient, lots of pictures!)
Zion National Park, in southwest Utah, is located about 160 miles (about a 2 ½  to 3 hour drive) from Las Vegas.  It's one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
I was on a two-week trip to Vegas in April of 1997.  My wife flew out from Huntsville, AL, to join me for the weekend.  Did we stay and gamble in Las Vegas?  No, we rented a cabin in Zion National Park for two nights.  It was one of the best times we've ever had.
Zion National Park is in a canyon formed by the Virgin River.  It is an oasis of green and coolness that is most refreshing after travelling through the desert of Nevada.  It was especially beautiful for an Alabama boy to see after so much brown!

Please enjoy the pictures provided on this page.  Click on any image for the "big picture."
And if you have the time, visit Zion.
After a fun night in downtown Vegas at Main Street Station and a visit to the Freemont Street Experience, we had a restfull sleep at the Fiesta Hotel/Casino (the video poker capitol of the world!).  We then headed out of Vegas under a beautiful blue sky!

The Nevada Mountains
Virgin Canyon, Arizona
After cutting through the northwest tip of Arizona, we were in Utah.  As is our habit, we stopped at the welcome center for brochures and a look around.  Here I am!

I hope you enjoy the photos I've provided below.  If you ever get a chance to visit Zion National Park, you should go!
