We started getting involved with Roller Hockey in 1993 and 1994. My son John-David Carling
got his first roller blades, and was trained in the Montgomery Village East Community Center
program by a local hockey Ref. He later played in the Maryland Street and Roller Hockey Association
League with a newly formed Midget team called the Rebels. Most of our players were 11-13 years of
age in a Midget League of 13-16 year-olds which was the only level available at that time. Naturally,
we lost a lot of games, but had a great time together with team mates Ryan Doughty and
Will Musser from our neighborhood. It was a lot of fun
The following year, J.D. was assigned to older and more proficient team, the Demons, and I was their
coach. We won the State Midget B championship in the spring and then took the state
A Division championship in the summer, The following year, 1996, we formed another new team
called the MOOSE, along with some of the guys from the previous year, and a select
group of players, and took the state A Division championship again in the Spring, winning
virtually every game by a wide margin.
A few words about NAMES for hockey games if I may....
There is now a new term appearing - SKATER HOCKEY
So, let's define some terms here in case you are confused!
ICE HOCKEY - This is THE game of hockey. Everyone knows what it is!
HOCKEY - A general term used for almost any of the sports listed here.
FIELD HOCKEY - Played on a field with a curved-end stick. Mostly girls.
LACROSSE - Played on a field with a loosely netted racket.
STREET HOCKEY - Played without skates, using similar rules to Roller Hockey
ROLLER HOCKEY - Played on roller blades either in a rink, street or tennis court etc.
IN-LINE HOCKEY - Another name for Roller Hockey
SKATER HOCKEY - Another term used for Roller Hockey (Mostly used in the U.K.)
Personally I think "Skater Hockey" is a poor term to use, because you SKATE in two different forms of hockey!

Marshalltown, Iowa won followed by Des Moines, Iowa (us). It was a tournament for 15-16 year olds. You can also list the tournament that we are planning for Des Moines, Iowa on April 12-13. It should be a good one as we plan on bringing in some of the best teams from the midwest. (Our teams alone are pretty good: Last year our 8 and unders were 1st in ball, 2nd in puck; our 11-12 team was 2nd in ball; our 15-16 team was 3rd in ball at the USAC Nationals.) OK, so you want to own your own roller hockey rink? I just found out about Border Patrol Rink Systems - they have been selling roller hockey rinks since 1993, and offer portable and permanent rink systems.
