205TH TACTICAL OPERATIONS WING

Easily the most visible and accessible unit in the Air Force by sheer size and deployment, the 205th Tactical Operations Wing practically torn the islands with a fleet of UH-1H, Bell 205A and 214B helicopters dispersed among six tactical squadrons, different area unified commands, PNP regional commands, and Composite Tactical Groups (CTGs), providing tactical airlift such as insertion and extraction of troops, deployment of combat forces and equipment, logistics support and aeromedical evacuation; acting as airborne forward air controller to facilitate ground target identifications, doing search and rescue; sweating through disaster relief and rehabilitation operations, conducting air surveillance and limited reconnaissance, performing organizational, field and limited depot level maintenance, and maintaining a comprehensive training program for pilots, door gunners, and ground personnel.

Formerly a unit of many personality cases, this wing has been recently overhauled to become the main symbol of a resource-strained, reality-coping government and military through the stringent simplicity, combat effectiveness, and functional versatility of its ubiquitous Hueys.

Today, it is the main force thrown across the country from as far north as Appari to as far south as Jolo, exposed to mud, blood, and gunpowder, and sustained largely by the energy of its relatively young pilots and equally daring door gunners.
