The Medium Attack Weapons
Detachment Mission The mission of Medium Attack Weapons Detachment was to provide parts supply, maintenance, ordinance and accommodations to the VA-42 Green Pawns (later "Thunderbolts") and the VA-128 Golden Intruders for VISWEPS Qualifications. Both squadrons flew the Grumman A-6E Intruder and the Grumman Gulfstream I, TC4C Academe. The A-6E's flown had both TRAM and SWIP modifications as well as certain weapons computer upgrades. The Grumman Gulfstream I, TC-4C (also affectionately known as the "TIC") was used by both squadrons for specialized Bombardier /Navigator Training. Each squadron had four. Medium Attack Weapons Detachment provided support for the TC4C although, it's primary mission was to transport equipment and certain personnel.
