Among Other Things
A New Set of Wheels- To be more in
line with our image as grandparents,
Dottie and I decided it was time to get
a new car. We decided on the 2005 Pontiac GTO that can accelerate
four bags of groceries from 0 to 60
in 4.6 seconds. This beast comes equipped with a 6 liter LS2 Corvette engine that puts out 400 hp and 400 ft/lbs. of torque.
This is an old photo of Dottie And The Grandkids- Dottie had her hands full with
these three livewires. Starting on the left is Lydia Rae Lockard who incidently got that
red hair from grannie Dottie (I know
what you're thinking but that was a long time ago). In the center is Clayton McManus who is very adept at keeping his "overseer" 100% occupied. On the far right is Kaitlyn McManus, our first and oldest grand child. Kaitlyn is a real sweetie.

Edit: Well here it is 10 years later and the kids have really grown. Kaitlyn is now a young lady and soon will be going to college. She got her drivers license recently. The other kids are doing great. Clay and Rae are soon to be teenages. Look out mom and dad! Dottie is doing great and enjoying her golden years as am I.

Joyce Pennington Lockard- In this photo,
Joyce is celebrating her 29th birthday. Joyce is the oldest of our two daughters. Besides being occupied with Shannon (spouse) and daughter Rae, she spends her "spare" time as a surgical nurse at Franklin General Hospital in Winnsboro,La.

EDIT: Joyce went back to school and is now a nurse practicioner. I've accused her of becoming a professional student. Seriously, Dottie and I are very proud of her.

Mother And The Girls- Holidays always
seem to be the best times for getting
the family together. We went to NE
Arkansas and brought my mother down to Louisiana for this past Christmas. From left to right are Joyce, Mollie and our youngest daughter Christy. Christy's birthday is on December the 23rd and that was close enough to Christmas day for us to name her Mary Christina Pennington. Aww, don't shame Dottie and I for doing this. It actually is a pretty name for a pretty young lady. Christy is working for an accounting firm in Winnsboro, LA and spends nearly all her spare time in pursuit of son Clay (Clay is a very busy little boy).

EDIT: Another 10 years have passed and things really have changed. Our two daughters are both doing fine. Joyce has moved up to the serious money and is now a nurse practicioner and Christy is doing great as an insurance agent for Farm Bureau. Sadly my mother passed away in March 2007 at the age of 95. We all miss her deeply.

Old Friends- During the corn harvest last fall, we hired a "custom" harvester to help get thecorn harvested. Heron Lopez (center) came up to NE Louisiana with two combines and 10 trailer trucks. It is truly amazing to watch these guys work and see how much work can be accomplished in a good days' run. The gentleman on the left is Heron's brother David who operates one of the combines and the fellow on the left is one of the truck drivers (sorry, I don't know his name). Heron, David, brother Ram and Ram's twin brother Mike (not pictured) are residents of Lyford, Texas where they work as produce harvester's during the season when the combines aren't running.
Harvesting Corn- For those of you curious
about farming, I thought it would be interesting
to include a photo of a combine gathering
corn. This is a recent photo of the 2007 harvest.
This particular field was yielding 200+ bushels
of corn per acre. About two hours after this
photo was made, an afternoon thunderstorm
with a possible embedded tornado came
through and blew over nearly every corn stalk.
Luckily it wasn't blown flat to the ground or the loss would have been 100%. In the end, we were
able to salvage close to 90% of the remaining
crop.
