The Rook

The Rook is the second most powerful piece of all the chessmen after the Queen. It can move horizontally or vertically - one direction at a time - any amount of squares as long as no other piece blocks its path (the Rook cannot leap over any pieces). The Rook captures the same way it moves. When it captures an enemy piece it displaces that piece (occupies the square of the captured piece).

White's Rook has 14 possible moves, indicated by dots.

White's Rook can capture Black's Bishop or Knight, but not the pawn.
