Mileva Maric Einstein - In Appreciation

Mileva Maric was was born in 1875 in Serbia (Yugoslavia) and grew up in Serbia. She went to Switzerland to study physics, and there she also met her future spouse, who was also a student of physics.

Would you like to see a photograph of Mileva and her spouse, Albert Einstein? Here is a photograph taken at their wedding.

I became interested in Mileva Maric some years ago, after reading a couple of letters by Evan Harris Walker that were published in Physics Today. As a result, I became coorganizer of a symposium "Young Einstein" at the 1990 annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in New Orleans. Evan Harris Walker, Senta Troemel-Ploetz, Lewis R. Pyenson, and John J. Stachel were among the speakers who addressed topics relating to the background and origin of Albert Einstein's revolutionary ideas, and the influences of his wife Mileva Maric and his other colleagues and their cultural and scientific environment. This symposium received considerable world-wide press coverage, and brought the story of Mileva Einstein to a wider audience.

My interest in Mileva Maric continues - I hope that you also find her story interesting.
