La serie posterior al Hughes 500 C, fue la denominada 500 D (500 MD para los militares) y se distingue de los modelos anteriores por contra con un estabilizador de cola en forma de “T” y rotor principal con 5 palas en lugar de las 4 anteriores. El motor también es diferente, equipándolo ahora un Allison 250 C20B de 420 SHP y 350SHP máximo continuo. El aumento de la potencia con la adopción de la nueva cola le da al conjunto una mejora general bastante notoria. El 500 MG Defender es una versión militar polivalente similar al Modelo 500D civil y disponible con una gran variedad de equipos; construido tambien por bajo licencia por Breda Nardi como NH-500D y por Kawasaki y Korean Air Lines. MG/TOW es un helicóptero anti-tanque liviano, equipado con dos
lanazadores de misiles TOW. |

This is a light anti-tank helicopter. It´s equipped with two TOW missile launchers plus the M-65 TOW system used by the US Army and other combat forces around the world. The essential components of the mission equipment package include the M-65 sight, auto pilot and modular weaponry. 500MD Scout Defender: fitted with gun pods, rocket pods, or 40-mm grenade launcher. 500MD/TOW Defender: anti-tank variant, four TOW missiles carried in pairs on each side, stabilized Hughes M-65 telescopic sight on port side of the nose (replacing lower left quadrant of the windshield). 500MD/MMS-TOW Defender: development of the above, but with Mast Mounted Sight (MMS) above the main rotor 500MD/ASW:
Anti-Submarine Warfare version. 26 built, 12 for Taiwan and 14 for Spain. 500MD
Defender II: Improved
version of Defender with optional four-blade tail rotor for quieter
operations, MMS (not the same MMS as on the MMS-TOW Defender), IR
suppression with modified "Black Hole" exhausts, pilot's
Forward-Looking IR (FLIR) and AN/APR-39 RWR. Can fit a number of weapons
including TOW missiles, machine gun and rocket pods. Was not purchased by
any country and is currently not being offered. |
