Welcome to an in-depth examination of some of Eastern North America's most common wild plants: their appearance, lore and uses. It is an attempt to increase the awareness of plants that we have seen every day for years and still may not have a name to us. It is also an attempt at a public relations campaign for plants that many people only see as weeds but in fact have many uses and interesting histories.

The pictures and information on this site have been organized by general habitat. "Disturbed Areas" lists plants that love lawns and roadsides. "Woodland" is for non woody plants found in shady areas. "Wetlands" lists plants that like to grow around ponds, streams and ditches.

Please try a plant quiz and browse for some excellent reading material in our bookstore. References, upcoming additions and other information are located in the "About" section.

Though information is given on edibility and medicinal uses, I have not included detailed instructions for safe preparation, or information about poisonous lookalikes. This means do NOT use this site as your only resource for eating wild plants. If you are interested in edible plants and wish to explore them further, I recommend a Peterson Field Guide "Edible Wild Plants" from Houghton Mifflin Publishing.

As of 4/29/2000 there are 24 different plants documented on this site. All photos and content by Christopher Broski. Contact at: rbdweasel@yahoo.com.
