My sister has resently become engaged to her boyfriend of several years.
This brought a question into my head: Why do we have weddings?
At first glance it would seem that it is a tradition that shows one's
commitment to another. A deeper look will show you that it is a way that women
can show of that they have snagged a man and he will only be hers.
She accomplishes this by organizing a large gathering of people to whom
she wishes to show off. Then she gets all dolled up in a very expensive gown
and goes marching down an aisle so that the whole world can see her permantly
remove the man from circulation. Then after she has got him, she drags him
back up the aisle by his arm. After this display of dragging him off she has
a big feast for all of her guests and shows off just how much money she can
blow in one fell swoop. The size of the feast is usually inversely proportional
to the size of the husbands bank account for the rest of the marriage.
Just forget about the pagaentry of a wedding. Make it simple and make it last.
