I am about to return to my summer job at a local amusement park, and guests,I am
confused, do they remove your brains at the main gate? I have asked many times, but
they always deny any such activity. There is a certain set of questions I can expect
to answer: Where are the restrooms? I can understand this question because you have
to go and there is no time to think; What time is it? be sure to tujrn and look behind
you I have been asked that question numerous times while I was looking at a clock; and
Where can I get change? Once again you should turn around. If you go up to the counter
in the arcade the chances are that there is a change machine very near, also look at a little
closer to the floor they do not float.
The responsibility of receiving good and polite service lays partially on you the guest.
If you treat the employee rudely then chances are you will be treated rudely yourself.
You do not want to know that the employee is having a bad day and they do not want know
that you are having a bad day either. There are some things that you can do that are pretty
likely to upset the person you are dealing with. If it is early in the day they may be nice
to you, but if they have already heard it five hundred times today then these things will
upset them greatly:
- Coming up to an employee ranting, raving, and assuming that every problem in the park
is everyone's responsibility. It is not the fault of the person in the giftshop that
you cannot go on the water rides in your jean shorts. Those rules are made up by people in
a different department.
- Stating, "That machine ate my quarter!" First of all machines do not eat. Secondly, know
which machine has taken your money. Third and probably most important is that the people
behind the counter are not responsible for keeping the machines running smoothly. Ask them
who is, and they will direct you to the person that is.
- Asking "stupid" questions. Many times a map will be handed to you on your way in or when
you pay at the parking lot. If you lose it or it gets destroyed then more are usually available
in the giftshops. Most of your questions can be answered by those out of proportion little drawings.
If you still cannot find something then remain calm and politely ask someone. They will be
more than happy to help you if you are nice to them.
- Going strait to the top. Most problems can be handled by the staff members behind the
counter. Don't ask for the manager because then you leave a bad taste in the mouth of all who
are working there. Definitely do not start by asking for the general manager. He is too busy
for problems from the guests. I have had this happen to me. Some little girl hit her head and
her mommy wanted to see the general manager of the park because she thought that he could help.
The fastest way to get something done is to go directly to the people who are most responsible
for the problem. If you tripped over the bump up in the concrete or jarred your neck on a rollercoaster
then the general manager will not be able to help. Go to first aid and they will tell the people
most responsible for keeping these things safe.
When you go to that amusement park this summer then keep these things in mind, and you
will more than likely have a completely enoyable time at the park.
