Yesterday morning and the rest of the day I was subjected to reports about John Kennedy Jr.'s plane disappearing off the coast of Martha's Vineyard. I heard what a wonderful person he was unlike the rest of the Kennedys. Perhaps that was because he was raised by Jackie's family and not his father's. Nonetheless he has fallen victim to the family curse in which they all seem to die in horrible deaths. Was this curse brought on by Joseph the bootlegger? That's a good possibility.

As with Princess Di we will be subject to a barrage of news stories about just how great he was then there will be the funeral for the sexiest man alive (according to one of those magazines that pretend like they know what's good for the People). I don't know about you, but it hasn't even been 24 hours since he was reported as having not arrived, and I am already sick of the news coverage. Don't these news people have anything better to do with their time that to spend hours on end reporting that the Coast Guard has found nothing? I watched the reports until about five o'clock and all they could confirm was that some luggage and a wheel had washed up on a beach on Martha's Vineyard. I got really sick of hearing reporters repeat themselves and show us a bunch of boats in the water.

Are these reporters on some self-righteous ego trip that they have to get on TV to take advantage of some tragic accident so that they can get some more air time? Were those networks afraid that the other networks would not stop their coverage so that their network would like it didn't care? I would have been able to tolerate the coverage if they would have just given us updates as they came in via one of those scrolling banners across the bottom and then break in during the commercials to fill us in. What do they do? They stop all programming so that their poor reporters, who should have been enjoying their weekend, could sit there in front of a camera and repeat themselves all day.

I don't know about you, but I fear any time that something remotely tragic happens because I know that the every news show will be trying to make themselves look like they care the most. Stop pretending! We all know that you only care about ratings. 60 Minutes has already set up an interview with one of his closest friends. That's sick, really sick! Think about the family that has to deal with this loss. Television is supposed to be a way to escape our meager lives and that will only remind them of their loss.
