Last night I was witness to something called the World Magic Awards. This got me to thinking, do everyone give away awards for everything? I can understand a few of these awards. They recognize a few brilliant stars in their respective categories, but so many award shows are being added that they are overlapping their categories and nullifying their validity. The Oscars are necessary for movies, Emmy's for TV, Grammy's for music, and Tony's for Broadway. The People's Choice Awards are nice because they are voted on by ordinary people, but why do we need the TV Guide awards? The Golden Globes are said to be an indication of what will happen at the Oscars so why do we them as well? Won't the Oscars do just fine on their own? Why is there an award show for every genre of music as well? We also have the Teen Choice Awards. Where Teenagers vote on what they were told by the hype machines is their favorite artist/actor/show/movie/etc. This year we were introduced to the Latin Grammies. Isn't Latin music a fad? I sure there are people out there who think that latin will be popular forever, but that is what some people thought about disco? Of course the Country Music Association awards are coming up as well. The Grammy awards can get away just fine with giving away and award for the best Country artist and the best Latin artist. I am sure that all these awards are there so that television networks can drawn in large audiences. They don't care that a particular music type is a fad. They don't care that they are diminishing the meaning of awards that used to mean something. I don't care because I don't watch any of them. These shows are boring and they don't really mean anything anymore. They are just a way for Hollywood to pat its own back and for TV networks to make a couple of extra dollars. I would prefer the networks to find some real programming and stop bombarding us with all these silly shows that are really becoming annoying. |
