A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.
This may look familiar to most of you as the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America. Lately, this has come under a lot of attack from people that do not like guns. They believe that guns are killing people, and we can't have that now can we? Unfortunately, these short sighted people fail to recognize that problem does not lie with guns. It goes much deeper than that. The problem lies with the general attitude of the people. People need to wake up and realize that guns cannot kill anyone on their own. There has been a general devaluation of life since the theory of evolution has come into popular understanding. This has been augmented by Roe Vs. Wade and Jack Kervorkian.
Some celebrities like Rosie O'Donnell would have you believe that if guns would disappear then so would murder. This is completely erroneous. Britain has outlawed guns and they have actually seen an increase in crime. Murderers have a whole arsenal of weapons that have nothing to do with guns. They have knives, poison, rope, and blunt objects to start. You can't exactly outlaw all of these things. Most of these things are used in our everyday lives.
Another argument made in favor of gun control is that the second amendment was for hunting and native attacks. This one is usually made by those that have not read the amendment. I ask you to read it again. Where does it mention hunting or native attacks? You can argue that at that time in some states their security involved fending off native attacks, but the amendment specifically mentions a militia. What it says to me is that an able bodied man should be able to at a moment's notice wake up, get himself armed, and march out his front door ready to wage war. Waging war with a handgun would be difficult so he should be able to carry the latest weapons of war, which includes semi and fully automatic weapons.
I think that this amendment was added so that the citizens could not only help their own army defend their land from outside forces, but also so that they could protect themselves from their own government. What is the Constitution? Quite literally it is a piece of parchment. Why does it have any value? It means something because there are people who are willing and able to defend and uphold it. Our current constitution was written in 1787, which was several years after Britain officially relinquished control of the United States. During the Revolutionary War the Articles of Confederation were written and these were the law of the land until our constitution was ratified. The Constitution was written behind closed doors because they were committing an act of treason. After the Constitution was ratified the Articles of Confederation were cast aside and no longer upheld. If you believe that this cannot happen again then you are very naive. If the people who are currently in power all of a sudden decide that they no longer want to uphold the Constitution then it will be up to the citizens to uphold it. If the citizens are unarmed then they will not be able to defend it and the people in power will be able to set up any sort of government they like. One of the first things the Nazis did after getting to power was outlaw fire arms. This gave the carte blanche to create any sort government they like. If you think that no American politian would try to rework the government while the citizens cannot defend themselves then you are extremely naive. I ask you, Is Rosie O'Donnell the Queen of Nice or the Queen of Nazis? It kind of makes think doesn't it?
