One year ago, a portion of the world was waiting for imminent disaster. They believed that we were entering a new millenium, and our reliance on technology was going to be the end of us. Another group of people thought that Christ was going to make his glorious return. Isn't it interesting that the new millenium did not begin with the beginning of the year 2000, but rather it will begin in a few days with the beginning the year 2001. "Oh No!" you say? Don't worry we will have the same problems that we had last year.

I don't want to use this time to pick on the paranoid people that thought the end of the world was coming. I would rather use this chance to talk about where we gone over the last thousand years. One thousand years ago, Europe was locked in the dark ages where learning was difficult at best. About five hundred years later, Europe came out the dark ages and entered a Renaissance or rebirth. People began to question religion and technological advancements began to accelerate. About this time it was discovered again that the world is not flat and there were two large continents to west that should be explored and some would say exploited. In another couple hundred years people would be questioning divine right to rule and they would once again attempt a government that would be run by the people. Soon more people who followed a monarch for centuries would be overthrowing their king to rule themselves. This self government would allow the general people to become educated and allow for even more new technological advances and within a few hundred years the life of the average individual would be changed forever. Electricity would keep the world enlightened twenty-four hours a day as well as cook and clean. It would allow for instant communication. People are living longer, but God has been all but obliterated. The lack of a higher authority to answer to has caused society to take seriously back pedal. While we should have the most civilized society, most people don't take advantage of their opportunities to become fully educated, and instead decide to turn against others and harm them. They bring this harm in the form of theft or outright murder. Others use their education as an excuse not to raise their children so they grow up to neglect their education and become wild creatures completely oblivious to something known as morals. These children have been known step into their with weapons and murder repeatedly.

As we enter this new millenium, I hope that we can learn from the mistakes of the last century especially and realize that children need two parents. They also need one of them at home so that they can be taught how to be civilized individuals. Unfortunately most of the parents today had no parents themselves and therefore have no idea how to parent even if did stay at home. Guns are not killing our children at schools. Parents or rather lack thereof are killing our children. I would like it known that I have no problem with women in the workplace. I have a problem with mothers in the workplace. If only mothers would start caring for their children again then perhaps we could undo the mess created by woman libers.

In the coming century we should not be worried about poverty or bickering in the Middle East, we should be worried about raising our children so that they can continue an advanced and civilized society. Poverty cannot go away. The only way to do away with some people having more than others is to make sure that everyone has the same amount of everything. That is called Socialism. It was tried already in Eastern Europe as well as China and Cuba. It did not make everyone rich or even live comfortably. It made everyone poor because there was no longer any reason to work hard. I understand that the petty squabbling in the Middle East and the former Yugoslavia is hard for Americans to understand, but it is important to remember that these harsh feelings have been in existance for many, many centuries. In 1941 the Japanese attacked our territory and we fought back, but shortly thereafter we started to accept their products and turned them into one of the world's leading manufacturers. We quickly forget when some other country does something bad to us, but in those other countries, they are very proud and hold a serious grudge. War and famine will never go away. I know that is a sad note to end on, but I hope that this will help you realize that we need to focus on other problems that can be solved.
