So now the Pledge of Allegiance is unconstitutional? I don't understand those people in California. The Pledge of Allegiance has only a nominal reference to no particular god, and does not even state that there is only one god. It does state that we are one nation, and that there is another higher power to answer to other than The United Nations.
I also don't understand how a circuit court could make such a decision. It is now only illegal to use that phrase in public schools in nine western states. I thought the purpose of the Bill of Rights was to provide uniform rights for all United States citizens. How does a circuit court get to decide whether a phrase is unconstitutional for only nine states?
If you don't like that phrase and you don't want your children to utter it then you should tell them why you don't like it. If you believe that strongly that there is not a god then you should be teaching your children the same thing. If you believe that there is a god then you teach your children that. They will not likely be affected by one phrase in a pledge that most children don't understand. From what I have seen on TV most adults can't even recite the Pledge of Allegiance so it is obvious that most Americans view it as meaningless. It is really sad that Americans have given up any interest in our past. We need to remember the past lest we be doomed to repeat it. Sadly, the past that I see us heading towards is a monarchy and taxation without representation.
Please make an effort to take an interest in where we have been so that we can learn the best direction to travel. It will keep us from backsliding to a authoritarian governement, and remember that the phrase, "one nation under god," will not force your children into a life of monotheism. If you are an atheist you probably grew up reciting that, and you didn't grow up worshipping a god.
