History: SAP (Socialist Workers Party) was formed in 1980 by RSF (Revolutionary Socialist
League).
Basically it was just a change of name, but it also indicated, a step forward in
party-building and big expectations to the possibilities in the coming decade.
During the eighties SAP ran for elections three times, receiving quite poor
results (0,2%).
In the beginning of the eighties the party started to publish a weekly
newspaper, formed a youth organisation and stregthened its position in the
Labour Movement.
In the late eighties the party suffered from general decline for all leftwing
groups.
After the 1987 election, where the Leftwing Socialists (VS) lost their seats in
parliament, SAP took the initiative to form a common electoral platform for the
leftwing.
In 1989 SAP, DKP and VS formed the Enhedslisten (Unity List).
Since then Enhedslisten has developed into an independent organisation,
based on ordinary membership.
Today SAP see its task to maintain and develop its revolutionary programme and
to bring these experienced into Enhedslisten.
