Detective Constable Mark Denton, a Toronto police officer, was charged yesterday with drug trafficking, the Toronto Police Service said.
It said the charges stem from an incident on Nov. 17 when the officer, a member of the drug squad, was in York, where he was stopped and investigated by the Ontario Provincial Police.
Constable Denton, who was off duty at the time, was charged with possessing hashish and intending to traffic in it. He has been suspended from duty and is to make a court appearance on Feb. 11.
