Olivenza is situated in the Alto Alentejo (a province in the south of Portugal), on the left bank of the River Guadiana, almost in front of Elvas city, about 24 Km south of Badajoz. The territory of Olivenza has got a triangular configuration, with two of its vertices lying in the River Guadiana and the third one going south-east into Spain. If Olivenza went over to Portuguese administration, it would probably become part of the District of Portalegre. |
