"Just Between You And Me"
- dc Talk
When the end of October rolled around last year, I hadn't found a choice for 'ALBUM OF
THE YEAR' and was getting worried I wasn't going to find one. None of the albums I had
purchased that year met the criteria or moved me enough to want to give it the Award. But
that all changed when I heard half of Just Between You And Me while waking up at
5:45am. I heard the song a few times more, and based on 3 sentences I read in a BMG music
review, I bought dc Talk's "Jesus Freak". I thought their album
would have a similiar sound to Just Between You And Me, but I had no idea what I
was in for. When I got the album, I did the usual 'intro scan', listening to about the
first 20 seconds of each song. But I found myself listening to most of the songs all the
way through, and I thought I might actually have something. I began to appreciate the
album the more I listened to it as dc Talk was able to take grunge and
make it melodious, something that Nirvana and bands of the like couldn't.
They keep very true to the grunge feel, but add catchy melodies, tempo changes, a variey
of voices and a collection of songs that, believe it or not, are Christian 'grunge' Rock.
Just listen to the words and you'll get the jist. "Jesus Freak" is definitely a
great nomination for 'ALBUM OF THE YEAR', an album that would make a nice addition to your
music collection.
