Waarover sprak D66 in het EP?

Bob van den Bos tijdens de hoorzitting van beoogd-commissaris Nielson op 31 augustus

Bob van den Bos (NL, ELDR) felt that Agenda 2000 was too narrow a framework for pursuing a coherent development policy.
Marie-Arlette Carlotti (F, PES) asked Mr Nielson if he intended to press for the budgetisation of the EDF.

In reply, the nominee Commissioner reminded Members that the budget debate was still going on, and said that while he could
not promise a miracle, he would "make every effort to get things back in the right direction". He felt it was important to stress
that the EU is not the one and only development aid donor, and that, in this context, greater coordination with its partners could
improve the quality of the aid supplied. It was important to ensure efficiency and avoid spreading aid too thinly. Concerning the
EDF, he believed an opportunity for its budgetisation had been lost, but would support any future proposal in that sense.

Lousewies van der Laan tijdens de hoorzitting van beoogd-commissaris Kinnock op 7 september

Lousewies van der Laan (NL, ELDR) asked why the Van Buitenen affair had still not been closed, taking the view that there
should be legal protection for persons who forwarded information on irregularities to Parliament. Mr Kinnock felt it was not
appropriate to answer this question, on the grounds that the case had not yet been closed and he did not wish to say anything
that might impinge on Mr van Buitenen's rights. There should be no hurry to close the case: it should be concluded in an
objective and equitable fashion.
