MORE STUDY FOR EPCOR
City council ordered its administration and EPCOR to review several possible future scenarios for the company, from keeping the company to selling it off. "There's no doubt about it, this needs to be looked at and studied," said Mayor Bill Smith. "We need to make sure we're making the best decision for citizens." Council made the move following debate on a recently released review of the power and water company. In that RBC Dominion Securities report it is suggested the company's future is about to become much riskier as competitors enter the provincial power market. Coun. Brian Mason argued both the report and yesterday's direction to EPCOR and city staffers are simply veiled moves toward selling the company. "I don't think the public should be under any illusion of where this is going," he said. But Smith argued administration will also be looking at the possibility of keeping the company. "It is not my goal to set out to sell EPCOR, but it is my goal to make an informed decision." The review includes several scenarios. *Continued city ownership of EPCOR. *Selling EPCOR. *Selling individual parts of the company. *Selling shares in the company. *Selling the power components without including Aqualta, the water branch.
