The current theme is: The High Tatras

"The smallest high mountains in the world" - this is the sentence we often like to describe our "roof" with. The High Tatras are really the most beautiful nature gift to our country. They are spreading on the nothern skirt of Slovakia, beeing the highest, 26 km long section of the Carpathian mountain arc. Their history, confirmed by documents, is about one thousand years old. Their inseparable component are the calcareous Belianske Tatras. In their highest peak - the Gerlach peak - the High Tatras reach 2 655 m in elevation. From the main ridge there run out mighty branches creating 25 valleys and form 300 peaks and towers. Under them are reflected many greater or lesser lakes. This world of silence, rocky giants, unique architecture, blue tarns and friendly people was enuntiaded as the national park, one of the largest in Europe.
