EVERYTHING OLD IS NEWS AGAIN
The Revival of the Talossan Press

In the last Vénéneux, we reported on the decline of the Talossan press. But, alas, that beast of a press is breathing once again, heart pounding, and taking an otherwise fine metaphor too far. Yes, the paper industry is up and running again, alas.

With the return of the old ZPT paper, L'Avintgard, and the creation of Talossa's first tabloid (by Jeremiah "Bullfrog" Griffin and Matt "Sprat" Dabrowski, respectively), it seems that papers are once again in vogue. A new type of Støtanneu reared its head, with the addition of writers Chris Gruber and Steven Ehrbar. And Gjermund Higraff gave his sleeping beauty, The Back Page, a little mouth-to-mouth and awoke that there column.

(And of course, Vénéneux is back from a long summer's nap, too!)

But where will this minor revival, this "journalisitc renaissance" lead us to? Enlightenment? Truth? Or just more clashings of opinion? Actually, all three, if we're lucky. For instance, the new "Van" has already struck a chord with the Progressive Conservative Party by showing a cartoon depicting the Prime Minister as a puppet of the King's. Fooey, say we; we say "Fooey."

Plus, we hear Matt Dabrowski (prospective Talossan, and ex-Lectorian) will start his own paper of record eventually. Until then, let the truth be known. Azul.

THE R.T. PARTY IS COMING
TalossaFest '98 Looms in the Background

TalossaFest. The R.T. Par-tee. It's bound to be the biggest and best gathering of Talossans since, well, since ever.

This annual party has been one of the two best things on the Talossan social calendar. It's a huge monster of a party, complete with great food, good music, lots of socialising, parades, balloon animals, and a fire-breathing Opposition leader. Basically, it's a no-miss kinda thing.

But instead of being that vaguery that will eventually be here in a few months, it has crept up slowly, now to the point of sleeping on our doorstep. Yipes and zooks, people. Get your bags packed, your faces washed, your speeches ready, your pop music skills honed, and your arses out the door. TFest is almost here, buddy-boys, and it's gonna suck if we aren't ready.

Tomás Gariçéir, designated TF98 chairentity, realized this fact just recently with a rather audible "ARGH!" Hey, if he knows, it, you should too.

Remember: August 1st. Don't be late or else we'll start without ya.

RUMOURS (A regular feature)
The Best of What Is and Isn't True

Welcome to the only Talossan gossip column... Phil Hartman (né Hartmann) and the Chairman of the Board have, alas, passed away recently. As always, the in-step Prime Minister Chris Gruber declared some tribute time to the two fellas by way of a coupla PDs... Brand-spanking-new Talossan Greg Aldous recently stopped by the Prime Ministerial Palais in Crawfordville, Florida (land of the burning trees) to chat and visit with the PM. Topics covered included Aldous' opinion of the new Royal Navy, the National Anthem ("One odd song," says Gruber), and recent sitchy-ations in the micronational world. They even said goodbye with the word "Azul"... Turns out Mr. Aldous will be attending the PM's wife's alma mater, Florida State University, this autumn. At the same time, ghletg-meister Tomás Gariçéir announced he's looking at the possibility of moving to the Greater Talossan Area. Talossa: Bringing People together Since 1979... Chris Gruber and his arch-enemy Anthony Lawless have been duking it out via the email-ways lately. Turns out Lawless doesn't care for Gruber disagreeing with Lawless... Is professional rabble-rouser (and winner of the 1998 Lorentz Award for Rabble-Rousing) Maxime Paquin-Charbonneau going to quit the RT? Apparently not, say sources. Max plans to call Talossa 'stupid" within its "borders" for a good long time to come... He's no Tin Man: turns out that Kulturmaven John A. Jahn has a heart! GASP! He recently sent Chris Gruber a copy (free of charge and ever'thing!) of Jahn's latest Talossan National News, along with a full-colour photograph of Jahn himself! "I see a note in there saying 'here's a photo'," says Gruber, "and it's the same one we all recognize!" Also noticed was that Jahn "slightly resembles Cary Elwes"...'Til neck's time, foaks, azul!

The Big Deal

It's Living; it's the Cosâ... it's Living Cosâ (TM) from Mattel!

Yes, the PM has introduced a bill this month that allows a Living Cosâ to be held at this year's TFest. Sounds like fun, no?

Well, yes AND no.

The good news: we can basically have a live-action version of our Wittenberg II arguments and debates. simple fun, if you ask me. HOWEVER, a lot of prep work must be done to pull it off.

Sadly, I (chris gruber, that roguish devil) will not be able to attend this glorious event. I am PEEVED. I have to pay these blasted things called "bills." But, to tell you, I have participated in a mock legislative session before (for the state of Florida), and thought it might be fun. Wrong.

It was addictive!

That's right, it was one of the best times I have ever had without the use of brewed beverages. Arguing factions, bills abandoned in committee, name-calling, pure hatred in a shirt-and-tie: it's all there and then some. Go! Particpate! Billy, don't be a zero; don't be a fool with your life! This LC is a great opportunity to boogie down in the most raw, political manner.

And I'll send a surrogate to take care of beeswax. :-)
