ComSubIn- Naval Commandoes

COMSUBIN- COMando SUBacquei INcursori represents, together with Battalion Col Moschin - Paracadutisti Incursori (a special battalion of commandoes of Italian Army) the "best of the best" of Italian Armed Forces.

 (E.Celotti, Edai)

Its headquarter is in Varignano, near La Spezia, and it inherited the glorious tradition of Italian naval assaulting units during First and Second World Wars, in fact ComSubIn is named also after Teseo Tesei, in memory of the WW2 hero.
It is subdivided in two branches: GOI - Gruppo Operativo Incursori (the commando) and GOS - Gruppo Operativo Subacquei (the scuba-divers section). The first is the combat-operative one and is formed by a small amount of men highly qualified for commando actions by sea and by land. Every "Incursore" (Italian term for intruder) receives a scuba, parachuting and alpine climbing training and a complete knowledge of martial arts and firearms of every kind; in addition there is an extensive and continuous physical activity. ComSubIn cooperates constantly with other allied similar units: US Navy Seals, Commando Hubert, SBS, SAS, etc., in order to exchange information, techniques and to train together . This way the "Incursore" is ready anytime and anywhere to act immediately. In 1985 they were about to act to free the hostages of ship "Achille Lauro", when the politicians preferred the diplomatic way to solve that crisis.
It's not easy to become "Incursori": only 10% of trainees get the Combat Ready award and the prestigious emerald beret.

ComSubIn's philosophy is: "better few and excellent, than many but only good". In fact the small number of Incursori allows them to have all the best equipment available in the world even if Italy is the western country that spends the least money for his Armed Forces!
