 1644Battle of Marston Moor. For the first time, Cromwell's infantry held off Royalist cavalry giving Parliamentarians control of the north.
 1645British royalists defeat Covenanters at Alford during English Civil War.
 1747Battle of Lawfeldt. Three times the French took the village and each time they were thrown back out. Finally the British withdrew from battle in good order.
 1863Second Day of the Battle of Gettysburg.
