Christopher Wilcox, Editor-in-Chief Reader’s Digest Magazine The Reader’s Digest Association, Inc. Pleasantville, New York 10570 Dear Mr. Wilcox: With respect to the article, "Weird Science at the EPA" which appeared in your June issue we wish to commend author Trevor Armbrister for a fine piece of work, and Reader’s Digest for publishing it. The 1993 EPA report on ETS constitutes a prime scientific hoax perpetrated on the public and further compounded by the agency’s refusal to either withdraw or amend it in the face of repeated objective criticism and its disallowance by a federal court. More than anything else, that false report set into high gear the anti-tobacco movement which has spawned further propagandistic misinformation and led to a host of inequalities against a quarter of the nation’s population. As advocates of smokers rights in particular and civil rights in general we want to hereby express our appreciation for an excellent and sorely needed piece of journalism.
Thank you, |
