March towards the
victory
Today is the 7th April of 1999. ULFA celebrates its 20th
foundation anniversary. FREEDOM pays its homage to the brave
martyrs and profound gratitude to the peoples, the fraternal
nations and friends of Assam. Struggle inevitably leads to the
war when the ruler takes the recourses of brutality and
suppression in the name of internal peace and security. The
struggle of ULFA and the peoples of Assam are also not
exceptional from the above aspect. The enormous experiences of
the last two decades of our national liberation struggle is a
good reflection of it. If we see the international arena of the
history of struggle, the same political equation is applicable to
us without debate.
The national liberation struggle of Kosovo has been able to
attract the headlines of the current world politics. And
ultimately the struggle has led a full-fledged war which is
threatening the existence of sovereign Yugoslavia, in the real
sense. The relentless struggle of the people of Kosovo has been
able to turn the support of the democratic people of the
world.
The struggle of Assam is not different from the struggle of
the people of Kosovo. The historical base is absolutely similar
that both were never a part to the respective occupation
countries. The aspiration of the people has come up as mode of
well-organised struggle after the four decades of the
"decolonisation process of UN" in both Assam and
Kosovo. Hence proving that the time factor of occupation does not
necessarily related to the legitimacy of the aspiration of
freedom. Failure to resolute the problem of Kosovo in time has
led the people of Yugoslavia to face the onslaught of NATO
attack. NATO is also determined to destroy the military machines
of former Warsaw alley, being the last enclave of red military
power, to
prevent any further possible embarrassment in Europe.
India should take the lessons from the Kosovo problem.
Undermining which may reduced it to a mere internal war theatre
and the land of death and misery. Suppressing any struggle
through military brutality in the name of so-called integrity is
a meaningless exercise.
Countrymen, take the situation of Kosovo and march forward
towards the independent of your motherland. India has no occult
power to prevent you from your way to the war. March and march
forward till the independence is achived.
Chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa calls
for the mass involvement in the freedom struggle
Chairman Rajkhowa inaugurates his speech of 20th foundation
anniversary paying his homage to the great martyrs and with a
generous confession of his source of inspiration to lead the
liberation struggle as-" The compatriots of Asom have been
struggling for the sovereignty of their motherland with
unyielding courage, Already the people of Asom have built up
relentless resistance against the inhuman torture, brutal
repression and disastrous exploitation of the Indian colonial
rulers. The freedom hungry people of Asom are the source of our
strength, determination and courage for the struggle. Above all,
they are the source of aspiration for the sovereignty and
independence of Asom
He expresses his grave concern about the role of the
anti-nationalist forces and states " Countrymen, it is not
the moment to address you again for the mere sake of formality
when the blood of octogenarians like grandparent Kantaram Boro
and Sukuli Boro have tinted the national liberation struggle The
pathetic incident of murder of 56 years old mother Fuleswary Das
along with her son, daughter-in-law and teen aged daughter has
inaugurated this black chapter of inhuman killings which was
committed by anti-nationalist forces. No language will be
required to confirm whether these anti-nationals have any parents
or siblings. The anti-national and the enemy of liberation
struggle are the two sides of a same coin."
He earnestly calls to the people of Assam irrespective of
cast, creed, religion, occupation and political belief to jump to
the freedom struggle of Asom as " Countrymen, it will be
more substantial to develop concrete unity among us against the
dividing policy of the enemy. Division is necessarily the cause
of ruin. I would like to call upon the student community of Asom
to join the liberation struggle so as to restore the glory of
freedom independence of Asom."
He summarizes his valuable speech by an solemn appeal to the
leadership of every strata of the social life of Asom as "
In conclusion, I appeal to all the leadership of different strata
of every nation and nationality of Asom to take a firm decision
of resisting unitedly the brutal repression of the Indian
colonial rule. Share and uphold the spirit of unity at this
moment of national crisis. Here lies the way to permanent amity.
"
Army renewed combing operations in Barak Valley
The Army has launched massive combing operations in Barak
Valley of south Assam. Army spokesman Major Satinder Singh from
Nachimpur cantonment has disclosed that troops had started an all
out combing operation on Indo-Bangla and Assam-Tripura,
Assam-Manipur border to round up militants.
The Army is also on the search for a group of 100 guerilla
fighters from this region with full battle gear.
Closed the large-scale match factory in Dhuburi
WIMCO, the only large-scale match factory in the entire
Seven-sister region, started at Dhubri in 1926 by a Swedish
company, has been kept closed by its present management since
April 30, 1997 pushing its employees to an uncertain future.
Seeing the delay in the resumption of production by the company
nearly 50 per cent of its workers have already left the company.
The remaining employees are now counting their days distress.
Procession with placards and shouting slogans demanding reopening
of the factory is still crying in jungle of the employees of the
WIMCO, Dhubri. What is the real fact behind it?
Of course the fact is the question of market. If WIMCO could
supply their matches in the whole region of seven sisters than
Bombay, Madrass, Calcutta, Delhi based match factory cannot
entertain their monopoly in this region.
ONGC fails to pay royalty
Freedom, March 26: The State Government lost huge amount of
revenue of Rs 639.60 lakh during the period from 1992-93 to
1997-98 due to non-payment of royalty on 1,20,507 metric tone
(MT) of crude oil which was shown as transit loss by the Oil and
Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGCL).
Prominent NGO seeks habitat for endangered species.
Nature's Beckon, an environmental NGO of Assam has urged the
government to declare the three rain forests of Assam viz.
Jaipur, Upper Dihing and Dirak as a wild life sanctuary. The
forests are spread over a total area of 500 sq. kilometer area.
These forests are similar to the rain forest of Amazon basin,
make up the unique habitat of Hollock Gibon, clouded leopard,
sloth bear, Chinese pangolian, the tiger, the elephant, the slow
loris, the capped langur, the flying squirrel etc. Already the
woods have been devastated to satisfy the hunger of 43 odd
plywood mills of Assam. The worst influence of ecological
imbalance due to the massive logging operation in the forests of
Assam has been facing by the people already. The present drought
and untimely flood are the significant outcome of the continuous
destroys of the rain forests.
