Procedure for Lubricating Brass for Sizing

When full-length sizing rifle brass, most people either use a caselube on a pad, or spray their cases with an aerosol or pump sray-on case lube. The case pad is messy and slow, while standing up cases and spraying them is much faster, but messy, wasteful, and you may not get even coverage. Here's a simple, quick, and efficient method for applying resizing lubricant to your cases.

PROCEDURE

  1. Clean your cases well. This includes the inside of the neck as well as the outside of the case.

  2. Find yourself a sturdy (preferably clear), clean plastic bag. It should be large enough to hold all of the cases that you'd like to lubricate for sizing. I prefer large "zip-lock" type bags.

  3. Take your favorite aerosol or pump spray-on case lube, and spray it into the bag. Some favorites are Hornady 'One-Shot', 'Size-All', RCBS Case Lube spray, and (what I use) Midway's pump spray 'Spray n'Size Liquid Case Lube'.

  4. Dump your brass in the bag, and mix the cases thoroughly, manipulating and mixing the cases with your fingers.

  5. If you'd like the inside of the case necks lubricated, spray the lubricant into the bag after you've added the cases.

  6. Remove the cases, and allow them to dry to a 'sticky' state - or per the manufacturer's instructions.

  7. I like to use a sturdy zip-lock type bag, as it is easy to seal, so the cases won't fall out. Also, although the remaining lube dries out, it tends to be 'reactivated' by new lube - making it perfectly usable for the next time - and the inside of the bag stays clean for the next time.
