It's not too likely any existing school system has the guts to grant anyone the autonomy necessary to actually make a definite, measurable improvement in a school's performance, but I leave this proposal out on the table in any case. You can't say nobody ever offered.

*** JOB OBJECTIVE/CALLING ***
Elementary school "Academic Coach": to raise the overall performance
of an elementary school, preferably one labeled "low-performing", by
working continuously with all students, two at a time, in a particular
grade such as third. Coaching sessions will ensure students are
"getting" the classroom material and also hammer away at basic academic
material required by the local standardized test born of NCLB. Will
demonstrate the marked difference a single individual with a first-rate
academic background, real-life work experience, a natural gift for
connecting with students, and unencumbered by the administrative
component of teaching can have on grades, standardized test scores,
readiness for middle school, and general enthusiasm for learning.
*** SIDE LINE ***
Web site makeover artist: for those with some lingering sense of "too
much is too much", will convert your garish, annoying, overloaded,
confusing web pages to text only. Just joking . . . (maybe not?)
